Salvador Rodriguez, 24, has been identified as the homicide victim found in an open field near the southbound Highway 99 Tuolumne off ramp. on May 17, 2014.

Modesto police on Monday released the identity of a man whose body was found near a Highway 99 offramp last month as Salvador Rodriguez, 24.

Family members last saw Rodriguez, who lived in Modesto, on May 1. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, black pants and black high-top Circa brand skater shoes, Modesto police spokeswoman Heather Graves said in a news release. His body was found May 17 in an open field on the bank northwest of the Tuolumne Boulevard exit off Highway 99.

Investigators have ruled the case a homicide but are not releasing information on how Rodriguez was killed.

Sgt. Ivan Valencia previously said the victim likely had been dead at least two weeks when his body was found. Police could not identify him right away because his body was badly decomposed.

Investigators would like to hear from anyone who may have seen Rodriguez on or after May 1.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward. Tipsters may text information to Crime Stoppers at 274637. Type “TIP704” along with the message.
