Woman struck by vehicle, killed while walking along Highway 99 in Modesto

A woman walking along southbound Highway 99 in Modesto was struck and killed by a vehicle late Friday night, authorities said.

The driver of the car fled the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was walking near the far right lane of the highway in the downtown area when she was struck by a southbound vehicle, according to the CHP.

Based on evidence at the scene, the CHP reported, the car is described as small and gray with damage to the front bumper and headlamp assembly.

No further information was released.
