Turlock — With California Chrome aiming for the Triple Crown, this will be a great year to watch the Belmont Stakes.
But if you can’t get to New York for the June 7 race, there’s still a better option than sitting at home and watching the race in front of the television.
The Turlock Turf Club, operated by the Stanislaus County Fair, is planning a special event for the big day. The Turf Club, a satellite racing venue, regularly broadcasts horse races from around the country, and offers the opportunity to bet on the outcome.
But for the Belmont, the Turf Club is planning a special event. Doors will open early in the morning, with food and drink specials all day, said Adrenna Alkhas, spokeswoman for the fair. Admission will be $5.
There will be plenty of other races that day, but attention no doubt will be focused on the main event, set for a 3:52 p.m. start.
