Two arrested in McHenry Avenue shooting

Bee Staff ReportsMay 22, 2014

Two of the four people detained after a shooting on McHenry Avenue on Wednesday were arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail, Modesto police said Thursday.

Kenneth Lowman, 34, of Modesto and Alexander Hill, 36, of Salida were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Lowman also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of cocaine for sale.

Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Heather Graves said the men had been involved in an ongoing dispute and exchanged gunfire when they encountered each other in the 500 block of McHenry Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. No one was hurt, Graves said.

Investigators believe Hill was in a Chevrolet Spark in the parking lot of a business complex on the east side of McHenry and that Lowman was at an adjacent apartment complex on the other side of a fence when they fired at each other.

Hill was detained near the scene of the shooting, and Lowman fled in a black Lexus but later was detained near Standiford Avenue and Prescott Road, Graves said.

Another man and a woman who were with the suspects at the time of the shooting and were detained by police were later found not to be involved and released.
