— The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday night, wounding two juveniles.

Deputies were dispatched about 7 p.m. Wednesday to the 700 block of Walnut Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found two juveniles with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.

The juveniles were walking on Walnut Avenue, going to a friend’s house, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The shooters ambushed them and opened fire. The victims attempted to flee on foot, but were hit.

The shooters were seen fleeing the area in a green SUV, possibly a Lincoln Navigator or Chevy Trailblazer, with chrome rims, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Both victims were transported to hospitals, one by ambulance and the other by helicopter. One of the victims had to undergo surgery for his injuries. Both are in stable condition.

Detectives are asking for assistance in locating the vehicle in which the shooters fled. The shooting may have been gang-related.
