What: DISCOVERY SHOP KICKOFF SALE

When: Friday, 10 a.m.

Where: Discovery Shop, 3440 McHenry Ave.

Info: The American Cancer Society has received a large donation of kids furniture and accessories – so big the store is using an extra space in the same shopping center. A kickoff sale will include lamps, bedding, furniture, rugs, art and lots of miscellaneous accessories for all ages. Bedding includes futon covers, shams, comforters, crib sets and window treatments, all at blow-out prices. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call Pat at (209) 544-9279.

Info: The San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority, which administers and manages San Joaquin Corridor rail service, is holding a public meeting to solicit input on its Draft Business Plan from agencies, organizations and members of the public.

What: CUB SCOUT EVENT

Where: Downey Park, 1200 Brighton Ave.

What: MINIATURE AIRCRAFT FESTIVAL

Where: Castle Airport, 2507 Heritage Drive

Info: The 17th annual International Miniature Aircraft Association West Coast Festival is a family and community event featuring giant-sized model airplanes taking flight, vendors, food and raffle prizes. YESTERYEARS

50 YEARS AGO: It was announced that longtime Patterson hardware store owner Wade Cripe would be retiring. Cripe had purchased the business in 1946 after returning home from World War II. He also was second assistant chief of the Patterson Volunteer Fire Department, for which he served 35 years, and a member of 20 to 30 other clubs.
