Where: Memorial Medical Center, Sierra Room, 1700 Coffee Road

Info: Do you have an ostomy, or do you care for someone who does? An ostomy is a surgically created opening connecting an internal organ to the surface of the body. Are you looking for information and support? Join the Memorial Medical Center’s Ostomy Education and Support Group. The group meets the third Wednesday of every month. Info: The Modesto PC Users Group general meeting features Bob Gostischa of New Mexico, who will give a presentation titled “So You Have a New (or New to You) Computer – Now What?” He will show how to turn your new computer into your friend and something that will make your life easier. This presentation focuses on normal computer users, rather than “IT geeks!”

What: CTA/NEA RETIRED MEETING

Where: CTA office, 3900 Mitchell Road

Info: The Stanislaus County chapter of the CTA/NEA Retired holds its quarterly meeting. The group is an organization that promotes the well-being of retired California Teachers Association members by advocating for pension security, promoting member benefits, participating in social activities and other issues of mutual interest. The meeting will feature reports on the June election, the governor’s May revised budget issue and an update on the CTA-MTA proceedings. CTA board representative Elana Davidson will give a presentation on the CTA’s Strategic Plan for 2014 and beyond. For more information, call (209) 485-0818.


YESTERYEARS

25 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Frito-Lay Inc. would be building a $20 million snack-food plant in the Beard Industrial Tract near Modesto. The new plant would initially employ 250 people, with the expectation of employing a total of 300 workers at full production.
