Nuts whiff 15 times in loss to Lake Elsinore

May 17, 2014

A dearth of timely hitting led to a 2-1 loss Saturday for the Modesto Nuts at Lake Elsinore. The Storm’s Gabriel Quintana hit a two-run double in the fourth inning for all the scoring the home team needed. David Kandilas had three hits for the Nuts, including a double. He singled and scored in the sixth on a Trevor Story groundout. Modesto starter Ryan Gibbard (0-5) gave up five hits in five innings. Both teams had eight hits, but the Nuts (11-32) struck out 15 times, eight against Lake Elsinore starter Joe Ross (4-2). Modesto concludes its four-game series with Lake Elsinore (25-18) at 1:05 this afternoon.
