Team in training signups, corridor meeting in Modesto

May 13, 2014

The Northern San Joaquin Valley chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training is signing up men and women for its fall teams, including a new team whose members will compete in a triathlon.

The formal kickoff will be June 12; information meetings are scheduled this month. Participants in the chapter, which serves Stanislaus, Merced and San Joaquin counties, will train to run and/or walk one of three major events: the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, Aug. 29-31; the Lake Tahoe Marathon and Half Marathon, Sept. 14; or the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco, Oct. 19. Triathletes will be training to swim, bicycle and run in The Triathlon at Pacific Grove on Sept. 13.

Participants in Team in Training raise funds to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its research and therapy programs to cure blood cancers. They train as a group twice a week and receive a daily plan for individual workouts. Free seminars cover issues such as nutrition, injury prevention and fundraising tips. Three free information meetings are scheduled:

• Saturday, 10 a.m., Oakdale Bicycle Shop, 445 E. F St.

• Monday, 6 p.m., On the Run in McHenry Village, 1700 McHenry Ave., Suite A13, Modesto

• May 28, 6 p.m., Fleet Feet, 277 Lincoln Center, Stockton

More information also is available at www.teamintraining.org or by calling (800) 482-8326. The last chance to sign up for fall events will be at the kickoff celebration at 6:30 p.m. June 12 at Modesto Centre Plaza, 1000 L St.
