— Authorities closed the Highway 99 southbound offramp at West Main Street in Turlock after a major crash Tuesday morning.

Police Sgt. Stephen Webb said a big rig hit two cars at 7:27 a.m. “Initially, when the call came in, we had reports people were pinned in,” he said. When officers arrived, everyone was out of the cars.

Seven people were hurt, but most injuries were considered minor. Two people were taken to a hospital, the Fire Department said.

Investigators believe the crash was caused by brake failure in the big rig. Coming down the offramp, the truck could not stop at a signal light, struck the two cars as it crossed West Main and came to rest on the onramp across the street, Webb said.
