Fire causes $200,000 damage to Modesto home near Davis Park

An apparently accidental fire left a woman displaced and caused about $200,000 in damage to a Modesto home a few blocks southeast of Davis Park.

Firefighters were called to the 2500 block of Dorrington Court about 4 p.m. Monday on a report of a house fire, according to Hugo Patino, support division chief and public information officer with the Modesto Regional Fire Authority.

When they arrived, they found heavy fire at the rear of the house. A fence also caught fire, leaving the home next door exposed.

Patino said crews brought a line through the home’s interior to keep it from spreading inside, and also protected the neighboring house that was threatened.

The fire had started on the back covered patio and extended up the wood shake roof. A significant section of the roof had to be stripped off to ensure that the fire was out.

There were no reports of injury, Patino said.

Four engines, two trucks, 19 firefighters and four chief officers responded to the blaze, which was brought under control in about 35 minutes.
