When: Saturday, 8:30 a.m.

Where: Modesto Gospel Mission, 1400 Yosemite Blvd.

Info: The day will start with an 8:30 a.m. kickoff, the blessing of bikes and breakfast at the mission. The ride will take Yosemite Boulevard/132 east through Coulterville and will continue on Greeley Hill Road, then will turn left on Fiske Road. The Community Center will be on the right. There, starting at 11:30, will be a barbecue lunch, live music and prize drawings. Cost is $25 per rider, $15 per passenger. For more information, call Garrison at (209) 225-2951.

Info: Modesto Republican Women Federated will have its monthly meeting. Lunch is $15 per person. The speaker will be Daniel Porter, an Iraq veteran with a moving and educational message. The public is invited.


25 YEARS AGO: It was announced that Michael Krajewski would become the new Modesto Symphony Orchestra conductor. Krajewski was the resident conductor for the Florida Symphony of Orlando. He signed a three-year contract and was to assume the position July 1, but said he would arrive in Modesto to work by June 14. The appointment was announced by symphony board President Lois Mayol.
