Fire destroys Modesto market

A fire Thursday morning destroyed a Maze Boulevard market in Modesto, authorities said.

According to Modesto Regional Fire Authority Battalion Chief Hugo Patino, firefighters were dispatched to the former Centra Civico Mexicano market, 228 Maze Blvd., at 5:52 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a “significant” fire in the back of the building and in the attic. They used hose lines and a ladder truck to fight the fire from outside the business.

Seventeen firefighters responded; Stanislaus Consolidated and Ceres fire assisted.

The building was vacant, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Damages were estimated at $250,000.
