Modesto Nuts fall to San Jose Giants

May 6, 2014

A three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night carried the San Jose Giants to a 6-4 victory over the Modesto Nuts at Municipal Stadium. A wild pitch and a passed ball contributed to San Jose’s rally. Ryan Gibbard pitched five strong innings and Derek Jones hit a two-run homer for the Nuts. Gibbard allowed two earned runs on five hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out two. Modesto scored two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Sean Dwyer and Will Swanner. San Jose answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Jesus Galindo hit a leadoff double and wound up scoring on a passed ball. Modesto extended its lead in the second when Sam Mende led off with a double and scored one out later on Jones’ third home run of the season. The teams resume their four-game series with Game 3 tonight at 7.
