Kadry on Bowling: Pros are in Modesto this weekend

The pros will be in town this weekend for the PBA Vanessa Brown Homes West Open hosted by Yosemite Lanes. The bowling will start with a practice session Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by the first pro-am at 3:30. On Saturday, two eight-game qualifying squads are scheduled at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The top 16 bowlers will return Sunday at 8 a.m. to start bracket match play. First place is expected to pay $2,500. On Saturday, the second pro-am will run at 7:30 p.m. The pro-ams will be no-tap play and are divided into three divisions. The Senior division will have a $25 entry fee and will be guaranteed a $250 first-place prize. The Adult division entry fee is $40 with a guaranteed $350 first-place prize. Ron Quintanal teamed with Linda Standridge to win the Any Doubles Will Do no-tap tournament at McHenry Bowl. Quintanal rolled an 873 and Standridge added a 790 for the 1,663 winning total. Linda Faughn and Gary Pattee finished in the second slot with a 1,651 total. Pattee included a no-tap 300 game in his total. Bud Thompson and Daisy Bringman took third with a 1,609 finish. ...

The team of Anja DeBoer, Ann Zuidema and Kelly Napuunoa placed first in the Ladies Trio Tournament at McHenry with a 2,393 team total. Rolling into second was the trio of Claudelle Bonaccinie, Fran Lockwood and Betty Gerritsen with a score of 2,348. Tallying a 2,330 series, Charlotte Scott, Teeny Allen and Char Moscato ended in third. ...

On Thursday, the Senior No-Tap Tournament runs at McHenry starting at 1p.m. A potluck starts at noon and check-in follows at 12:30 p.m. ...

The 14th annual Benefit Bowl at McHenry is just around the corner, set to run on May 17. This year Habitat for Humanity is the recipient of the funds raised. Squads are at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. for teams of four. No bowling skills are needed for this fun event. Bowling to music, an event T-shirt, a barbecue lunch, prizes and games are included in the entry fee. A silent auction and raffle will be held. Sponsors and donations are still needed. The California State Senior Open Championships are coming back to Modesto after a successful run in 2012. The team event will be at Yosemite and doubles and singles will run at McHenry. The tournament filled up fast the last time it was in town, so send your entry in early. The event runs for five weekends starting Oct. 25 and ending Nov. 23. Teams are fours and can be any combination of men and women. There are two divisions for team event and three divisions in doubles and singles based on age. Entrants must be age 50 or older. Summer leagues are starting next week at both bowling centers. Openings for teams and individuals are still available most days. The short season runs until August. The 65th annual Peach Classic Tournament will start its 11-weekend run on Memorial Day weekend with squads on May 24, 25 and 26. Times are at noon, 2:30 and 5 p.m. each day.
