Joe Orlando: Calkins gets it right on limiting sprawl

May 6, 2014

Regarding “ Stanislaus County supervisor candidates field questions on key topics” (modbee.com), “Candidates talk safety, water woes” (Page A1, May 2): Scott Calkins should clearly be the new District 3 supervisor. Terry Withrow really believes we can move Highway 132 and limit sprawl?

Terry Withrow really believes we should wait for “more information” before limiting water use? Supervisor Dick Monteith agrees with Withrow, saying, “Let’s not compound our problem because of ignorance.”

We know we are in a drought; we know the state is beginning to limit water use. That’s not ignorance. Those are reasons that we should put a temporary moratorium on well drilling. Consider the long term here, and you will see that Scott Calkins’ ideas will protect what we hold most dear – farmland and water.

Let’s stop the intrusion of Wood Colony by voting for Scott Calkins for supervisor.
