Modesto Nuts rally for win in San Jose against Giants

May 5, 2014

Trevor Story’s bases-loaded triple in the seventh inning broke open the Modesto Nuts’ 6-1 California League win at San Jose on Monday night.

The two-out rally was set up by a single by Juan Ciriaco, a walk to David Kandilas, a double steal and Chris O’Dowd’s reaching base on catcher’s interference before Story’s big hit.

Story also singled home a run in the ninth as the Nuts snapped a three-game losing streak.

Modesto starter Devin Burke (1-1) struck out nine and gave up only an unearned run in 51/3 innings. Modesto trailed 1-0, however, until Sean Dwyer’s two-RBI single to right with two out in the sixth brought in Ciriaco and Kandilas.

Game 2 of the teams’ four-game series is tonight at 7.
