Nuts rally from eight-run deficit to beat Giants

May 1, 2014

The Modesto Nuts overcame an early eight-run deficit to defeat the San Jose Giants 10-8 on Thursday night at John Thurman Field. The Nuts trailed 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Modesto scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the seventh to knot the score. Second baseman Juan Ciriaco had a two-run, inside-the-park homer to ignite the four-run rally. In the eighth, with two out and nobody on, Ciriaco got the winning rally started with a bunt single. David Kandilas then belted a ground-rule double to put runners on second and third and Chris O’Dowd delivered the go-ahead runs with a double to right field. Raul Fernandez came on in the ninth and, after yielding a leadoff walk, retired the next three batters he faced to earn the save. The Nuts are at home again tonight as they begin a three-game set against Bakersfield at 7:05 p.m.
