Free dental, health and jobs fair set for Wednesday

    WHAT: Health and Resource Fair

    WHEN: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday

    WHERE: Heald College Modesto, 5260 Pirrone Court, Salida

    INFO: Heald College Modesto, Covered California, American Red Cross and other community partners will offer, at no cost, dental and health services, and information on health insurance, disaster preparedness and job skills; the Department of Corrections will be taking job applications.

A Health and Resources Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday will offer free basic dental care and health screenings as well as career tips and an opportunity to apply for jobs.

Heald College Modesto will host the event, partnering with other agencies. The American Red Cross will offer tips on disaster preparedness. Covered California will provide information on affordable health insurance.

The California Department of Corrections will meet candidates and take résumés at the fair for an estimated 7,000 job opening in the next three years, said a Heald spokesperson.

Free dental cleanings and basic treatments will be offered with Heald students assisting. A dentist will be on site doing simple procedures on adults and children. The day of the fair, visitors can get basic fillings, cleanings, digital X-rays (emailed to patients) and standard extractions.

Other services being offered:

• Free health screenings, including a check of vital signs, glucose and cholesterol levels, blood pressure and body mass index

• Exercise consultations and information about how to incorporate activity into busy schedules, with quick tips for activities to do at home and techniques to reduce stress

• Free massage to reduce stress, and spine evaluations and adjustments by a chiropractor

There also will be job skills help, with résumé building and career coaching tips.
