Suspects identified in Sonora counterfeit case

April 30, 2014

— With some help from the public, police in Sonora have identified two of three suspects in a counterfeit case.

Last month, police released surveillance photos of three people believed to be involved with the passing of counterfeit $20 bills at Walmart in Sonora.

"Within a few minutes of posting the photos on our Facebook page, someone called and identified one of the male subjects," police said in a news release. "Approximately a week later, another person called and identified the female subject."

Authorities identified the man as Brandon Birdsong, of Modesto. He is on probation for the same offense. The woman was identified as Shiray Muna, 36; police believe she is in the Modesto or Lodi area.

Investigators forwarded the case to the Tuolumne County District Attorney's office for review and potential charges.
