A man and a woman were shot to death in the parking lot of a bar late Saturday near Waterford, and a Modesto man was arrested Sunday morning in connection with the shooting, the Stanislaus County Sheriffs Department reported.
On Monday morning, sheriffs officials had not released the victims names. Their identities were going to be withheld until their families were notified.
Sheriffs officials also have not discussed the shootings possible motive, but the suspects charges indicate an alleged botched armed robbery might have led to the deadly shooting.
Alejandro Naranjo, 20, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder and one count of attempted carjacking. He was being held in custody without bail.
The victims were pronounced dead at the scene about 11:30 p.m. outside El Rincon bar at 10012 Yosemite Boulevard, about two miles west of Waterford.
About 8 a.m. Sunday, Naranjo was arrested at his home in the 400 block of North Martin Luther King Drive in west Modesto. A sheriffs spokesman said he was taken into custody without incident.
