A difficult April got worse Saturday for the Modesto Nuts.
They fell 8-2 to Visalia in a game resumed in the bottom of the fourth inning following Friday’s rain stoppage. Later, the Nuts were beaten 4-2 in the scheduled game that was shortened to seven innings at Recreation Park.
Former Modesto Junior College and East Union High pitcher Spencer Arroyo (2-1) allowed two unearned runs in 51/3 innings during the nightcap for Visalia. Jordan Ribera homered in the seventh for Modesto, which has started 5-18 overall and 1-7 against the California League North Division-leading Rawhide (17-6).
The Nuts managed only five hits, two by Sean Dwyer, during the resumed game. Dwyer and Chris O’Dowd singled home the team’s only runs.
Modesto completes its three-game series at Visalia today at 1 p.m. The Nuts then return to Thurman Field for a seven-game homestand, beginning Monday with the first of four games against the San Jose Giants.
