Kadry on Bowling: Gordin takes title in Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite

April 22, 2014

The bowling bunny brought Jim Gordin an extra treat this year, his first title in the Scratch 6-Gamer at Yosemite since 2009.

The new ball probably helped a bit, too.

Gordin qualified second with a 1,442 for the six games (a 240 average) on the PBA Mark Roth pattern. Myles Duty was the high qualifier (a 246 average) and waited in the wings for the final stepladder match. His opponent turned out to be Gordin, who won 236-204 score. Gordin took home the title, $300 and a spot into the 2014 TOC. Duty’s take was $210 for second. ...

California State Tournaments are starting their annual run this month. The Open Championships will be held in San Diego from April 26 to June 22. The team event is at Kearny Mesa Bowl and doubles and singles run at Parkway Bowl. The Women’s Championships are a bit closer to home, running in Stockton through June 1. The team event is held at Pacific Avenue Bowl and doubles and singles are at West Lane Bowl.

Two changes are in effect this year at both events: The first is that a bowler can bowl multiple times, as long as they re-enter with different teammates in the team and doubles events. The second change is that walk-ins are welcome, so you can put your team together anytime and register at check-in. Entries are at both bowling centers or online at www.calusbc.com.
