Modesto Nuts fall to Lake Elsinore

April 19, 2014

The Modesto Nuts were beaten Saturday night by one swing, Hunter Renfroe’s three-run homer in the third, and dropped the rubber game of their three-game series at Lake Elsinore 3-1. The Colorado Rockies’ Jhoulys Chacin went 42/3 innings in his final rehab start for Modesto (4-13) but yielded the home run. The Nuts’ offense out-hit the Storm 12-6, featuring three hits apiece by David Kandilas and Matt Wessinger, but stranded 12 baserunners. Modesto picked up its only run in the fifth after Jose Rivera singled, stole second and scored on a two-out hit by Wessinger. The Nuts open a four-game series against Bakersfield on Monday night at Thurman Field.
