Debates set for sheriff, DA candidates in Stanislaus County

Bee Staff ReportsApril 19, 2014

Candidates for sheriff and district attorney in Stanislaus County will debate publicly in upcoming forums in Modesto.

The four candidates for two offices – Sheriff Adam Christianson and Deputy Tom Letras, and District Attorney Birgit Fladager and defense attorney Frank Carson – will appear at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Kirk Lindsey Center, 1020 10th St., Suite 102, at an event hosted by the Modesto Chamber of Commerce and the King-Kennedy Memorial Center.

The same lineup is expected April 28 in the basement chamber at Tenth Street Place, 1010 10th St., with Christianson and Letras squaring off at 6 p.m. and Carson and Fladager following at 7:15. That forum is hosted by the League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County.

The league also will sponsor a debate featuring candidates for county supervisor at 6 p.m. April 30, also at Tenth Street Place. Scheduled to appear are incumbent Terry Withrow and Scott Calkins in District 3, and incumbent Dick Monteith and Dave Lopez, a Modesto councilman, in District 4.
