Schools collecting 'Bills for Babies'

April 10, 2014

All Modesto City Schools campuses will be collecting “Bills for Babies” this morning, a fundraiser for the March of Dimes. Volunteer students and staff will collect donations during student drop-off time before school begins. Teams will be out from about 7:30 to 9 a.m. at all elementary, junior high and high schools in the district, the transportation yard, corporation yard, Reno Avenue complex and the nutrition services center. The March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization working to improve maternal and infant health. The March of Dimes notes that of the 19,502 babies born each year in the Central Valley, 1,860 of them (9.5 percent) are born prematurely. Statistically, 109 of those babies will not live to see their first birthday.
