Man held after cars stomped in Empire

April 10, 2014

Police, firefighters and Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies converged on Yosemite Boulevard in Empire on Thursday afternoon after a report of a man jumping up and down on parked cars and running into traffic. The call came in about 3:30 p.m. According to sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Rakonzca, the man, later identified as Vincent Garza, 30, broke some car windows when jumping on the vehicles. “Citizens tackled him and called for law enforcement,” Rakoncza said. When deputies arrived, Garza started fighting with them. Nobody was injured in the altercation. Garza, whom authorities believe was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, was booked into Stanislaus County Jail on charges of vandalism and resisting arrest.
