Bruce R. Frohman: Driving is better than Skywest’s Modesto service

April 8, 2014

Skywest is pulling out of the Modesto Airport due to declining business. The airline only has itself to blame.

The last time I tried to fly out of Modesto, my flight was canceled because not enough passengers were on it. My flight was combined with the next flight scheduled to leave two hours later. The last-minute change caused me to miss my connecting flight to the East Coast. Because of this, I canceled my business trip. Driving to San Francisco airport was a more reliable way to reach a destination.

No airline should expect passengers to be loyal if the airline does not deliver reliable service. The proposed service to Los Angeles will only be successful if the new airline is reliable and makes the effort to build its business.

Service to San Jose and San Francisco airports can be successful, but only if the business is run like it should be: on time every time.
