Nuts look for first victory today in Visalia

April 6, 2014

A Modesto Nuts victory in 2014 will have to wait another day. The Nuts dropped to 0-4 on the season with a 10-2 loss to Bakersfield on Sunday. Bakersfield starter Ben Lively retired the first 14 Nuts he faced. Modesto’s David Kandilas broke up the perfect game, no-hitter and shutout bid in the fifth with a solo homer. Jose Rivera had the only other hit for the Nuts, an RBI double in the eighth. The Blaze pounded starter Jayson Aquino for eight earned runs in four innings. He failed to retire a batter in Bakersfield’s four-run fifth. Modesto plays at Visalia today at 1 o’clock for the start of a three-game series before making its home debut at John Thurman Field on Thursday night.
