‘Grand Budapest Hotel’

Step into the luxury of the “The Grand Budapest Hotel” at the State Theatre’s opening-night party. The event will celebrate director Wes Anderson’s latest release. Guests will be treated to a lobby decked out with period antiques and are encouraged to dress for the occasion. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres from executive chef John Surla of Surla’s Restaurant will be served. The comedy follows the escapades of guests and staff a tony hotel in the fictional Eastern European republic of Zubrowka in the 1930s. The ensemble includes Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Tilda Swinton.

Central California Art Showcase

The Central California Art Showcase brings together two of the area’s largest arts groups, the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock and the Central California Art Association in Modesto’s Mistlin Gallery, for a regional event. The exhibit will be on display at the Carnegie and Mistlin through May 11. The joint venture replaces each organization’s individual spring juried art shows. The event will showcase new work in a variety of media from regional artists. An award ceremony and reception will be held at both galleries today.

Classic Live: Led Zeppelin IV

The Classic Live series specializes in bringing note-for-note, cut-for-cut renditions of famous albums. Founded in 2003, the touring production covers such acts as the Beatles, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana. The series rolls back into Modesto to perform the “Led Zeppelin IV” album. The record features legendary hits including “Stairway to Heaven,” “Black Dog” and “When the Levee Breaks.”

Bow Wow Wow singer

Bow Wow Wow vocalist Annabella Lwin, of “"I Want Candy” fame, is coming to Modesto. The singer joined Bow Wow Wow when she was 14 years old and sang some of its most recognizable hits from “Go Wild in the Country” and “Do You Wanna Hold Me?” to its early video hit “I Want Candy.” The single and its video were in regular rotation on the fledgling network MTV in 1982. Also performing will be local artists Moon Trent and Victoria Boyington of Callbox.

Volbeat

Danish metal quartet Volbeat returns to the United States for a tour that swings into Modesto Centre Plaza on Tuesday. The quartet was nominated for its first Grammy Award earlier this year. The group was up against metal heavyweights such as Anthrax, Black Sabbath and Killswitch Engage for best metal performance. In its native Europe, the band plays in front of 10,000 fans a night.

Bo Bice

“American Idol” runner-up Bo Bice brings his acoustic tour into Black Oak Casino. The fourth-season standout on the popular reality singing competition has been performing and touring nonstop since coming in second to Carrie Underwood in 2005. Since then, he has released three albums and recently took over as lead for the jazz-rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears.
