Take a trip through the stars and planet Earth on Friday at a Great Valley Museum preview of its not-yet-finished digs in the Science Community Center on the Modesto Junior College West Campus.

MJC’s science building is the centerpiece of its Measure E building projects. The 110,000-square-foot complex cost $37.3 million to build and when outfitted was budgeted to cost $70 million.

The Great Valley Museum was scheduled to open this month, but that will not happen, museum specialist Molly Flemate said Wednesday.

“We’re still doing some interior design. We really don’t expect to be fully moved in until the summer, and maybe not until September,” Flemate said. “This is just as a peek because, of course, we’re all getting a little impatient.”

The event is a fundraiser for the museum. The $15 tickets include a planetarium show, museum walk-through tour and “Science on a Sphere” presentation. The “Ultimate Universe” planetarium show and flight through the galaxy will be presented hourly from 4 to 7 p.m.

The evening will include information about the pond in front, the Foucault pendulum and a look through some telescopes on the roof, Flemate said.
