Kadry on Bowling: Brunswick Modesto USBC Masters Tournament set to roll at Yosemite Lanes

For the scratch bowler, the Brunswick Modesto USBC Masters Tournament kicks off this weekend at Yosemite Lanes.

Qualifying squads are Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The field leaders will return Sunday at 9 a.m. for the two-game double-elimination finals. The tournament will be rolled on the Yosemite “House” shot. Entry fee is $125. Call Jim Gordin or Wayne Garber at (209) 524-9161 to hold a spot. ...

The Modesto USBC Senior Doubles Tournament has released its final prize list. Taking the title for this year is the team of Ann Zuidema and Debbie Couch. The pair tallied a 1,793 for the win. Michael Sneed and Bob Abujen (1,757) finished in second. Mom Gloria Chin and son Jeff Chin finished in third place with 1,685. ...

Scoring was high for the Yosemite Senior No-tap Tournament. Mike Seibel was the overall leader and topped the men’s list with his 911 set on games of 274-278-278 plus 81 pins handicap. Greg Ereso rolled an 870 for second, followed by Carl Elvick (826). Topping the ladies’ list was Tricia Norris (908) and runner-up Debbie Couch (853). ...

The Swing into Spring Crazy Bowl at McHenry was indeed crazy. Bowlers bowled the first two games with hanging sheets blocking their view of the pins. For the third game, they bowled sitting in a chair followed by bowling with the bumpers up. In spite of that, Gordon Ahart managed to bowl an 820 taking the top spot for men followed by Fred Nevarez (748) and Earl Purcell (745), who had a no-tap 300 game. Rose Baker was high for the ladies with a 732 score followed by Betty Tull (719) and Kim Heller (710). ...

The PBA will be coming to Dublin Bowl with the Earl Anthony Memorial PBA Open the weekend of April 11-13. In conjunction with the tournament, Dublin Bowl will be hosting a Junior & Senior Pro-Am on April 11 and the Adult Pro-Am on April 12. Entry blanks are at the local bowls or call (925) 828-7550. ...

It’s easy to procrastinate, but there are only two weeks left for applicants to turn in their applications for two Modesto USBC scholarships; they are due April 15. The Hall of Fame Scholarship is for graduating youth bowlers and the Director’s Scholarship is for children of Modesto USBC members of high school age. Applications are available at the local bowling centers. ...

ESPN will televise the second PBA League Semifinals Match on Sunday at 10 a.m. This week’s team match will feature the Philadelphia Hitmen and the Silver Lake Tom Splitters. The winner of this match will face the L.A.X. team that won its berth into the Elias Cup Finals in last week’s match. The Elias Cup Finals will be televised April 13 at 11 a.m.
