Michael Lear: Bush’s wars sparked recession

March 26, 2014

Regarding “Were wars in Afghanistan and Iraq worth it for U.S.?” (Opinions, March 23, Page D3): The short answer is no! It is hard to believe, though, that the economic cost was not even mentioned in either of the two opinions.

That is a little more understandable coming from a Heritage Foundation’s hired Bush apologist: better not to bring up the cause of trillions of dollars of our massive debt and epic recession if you can avoid it. Someone just awakened from a 15-year coma might read James Carafano’s piece and think that it was Obama, in the first of his four administrations, who started each of these wars.

Printing that famous picture of Bush in front of the “Mission Accomplished” poster was worth at least 1,000 words.
