Baseball historian will collect local stories in Riverbank

March 18, 2014

Richard Santillan, who has written histories of Mexican-American baseball in several parts of California, will visit Riverbank on March 29 to gather stories for his next book.

The Riverbank Historical Society is hosting the event and invites area residents to share memories and photos from hardball and softball teams. It will be from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Riverbank City Council chamber, 6707 Third St.

Santillan is professor emeritus of ethnic and women’s studies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He is visiting the Central Valley for his fourth book, which follows volumes on Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire to the east.
