Recently, Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham have voiced the notion that a major factor in encouraging Russian President Putin to send troops into the Crimea sovereign territory of the Ukraine was a perception of the weakness of the United States, and President Obama, by foreign leaders.
I could not agree more. For the past six years, all weve been doing is withdrawing forces from distant places.
We have not invaded a single foreign country. Imagine, if McCain and Sarah Palin had been elected in 08, wed appear so much tougher, with troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan, most likely Libya as well (no Benghazi). Bashar Assad of Syria would have surrendered two years ago, and Putin would be quaking in his boots.
A few days ago, Oliver North opined on Fox News that if Ronald Reagan were president, Putin wouldnt have moved on the Crimea. No doubt. And furthermore if only a young Reagan had been president in 1941, Im pretty sure that the Japanese wouldnt have dared attack Pearl Harbor.
So, we just need to get tough again, get our military back in remote places on the other side of the globe, and show those Russians whos boss around here.
