Leading Off: Olympian Suzy Powell to hold clinic in Oakdale

Modesto’s three-time discus Olympian Suzy Powell invites all shot put and discus athletes to her World Athletics Center Phase 1 Throwers Clinic on Sunday, from

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oakdale High School. Powell, the former two-time national champion and American record holder in the discus, will teach the WAC drill progressions for shot put and discus as well as the basics of full-throw technique. Register at worldathleticscenter.com.


The Modesto Nuts Professional Baseball Club is looking for the next voice of John Thurman Field to serve as the public address announcer for all 70 Modesto Nuts home games. If you have always wanted to speak in front of 4,000 fans, this position is for you. Send a resume and relevant experience to tyler@modestonuts.com. In addition to the public address announcer position, the Modesto Nuts are looking for national anthem singers for the 2014 season.
