5:25 p.m.: Modesto High placed in a tie for 4th in team standings with Oak Ridge with 95 1/2 points. Vacaville won with 197. Second was Folsom with 147 1/2. Del Oro was 3rd 122 1/2.

5:25 p.m.: Jay Johnson of Buhach Colony (195) settled for 6th place. ... Jeramy Sweany of Vacaville (220), one of the state's best and a bona fide brute, continued his powerful role to Bakersfield with 19-5 win over Dominic Freeseha of Escalon ... JoJo Ochoa of Atwater (220) recovered from 4 OT loss to Freeseha in quarterfinals and took 3rd place with 3-2 win over Cole Wilbourn of Jesuit. To get to 3rd-place mach, Ochoa beat Sai Ta'amu of Elk Grove 3-2. ... Nick Roditis of Pitman lost by default for 5th place to Ta'amu. ... Tony Lopez of Merced took 5th place at 285 with forfeit win over Erc Bejaran. No surprise there were many defaults today. Rugged tournament at the end of a rugged season. ... Kimball's Trent Nicholson (152) pinned Tristan Smith of Bear Creek late in the 1st round for 3rd place. ... Merced's Romeo Ontiveros is the 152 Masters champon after efficient 9-5 win over Roman Romero of McNair. He follows Mark Taijeron, the Bears' 2013 Masters champion last year who missed the end of this season due to injury. ... Pitman senior Logan Wolfley was beaten 10-0 by Kaleio Romero of Oakmont in the 160 final. ... Albino Orozco of Turlock lost 10-3 to Will Sumner of Nevada Union for 170 title. Turlock wrestlers fall back to back. ... Frankie Trent of Oakdale takes hardearned 3rd at 170 with a 3-1 OT win over Del Oro football star Dylan Kainrath. Great comeback by Trent after 1st-round loss to Gregori's Nathan Ah You. In consolation, Trent won 7-0, 3-0, 3-1, 3-2, 6-4 in OT and then Kainrath. Hilmar's Antonio Melo (182), injured during semifinals loss, twice defaulted for 6th place.

3:38 p.m.: Nice run by Argonaut's Caleb Patrick for 3rd place at 132. He defeated Bobby Ehman for 3rd place for his 4th straight win since a loss in quarterfinals. ... Nick Valadez of Pitman takes 5th win a decision over Hughson's Chase Herrin. ... Emilio Saavedra of Modesto (138) was in charge to beat Brandon Clairborne of Oak Ridge for Masters title. ... Nice win for older Saavedra, who missed weight at MMCs last year and his season ended. ... McCoy Kent of Enochs took 3rd place at 138 with 2-0 over Tyler Lawrence of Escalon. First-round takedown was enough. ... Josh Peterson of Beyer takes 5th place with 4-3 win over Alex Bluemel of Bella Vista.

3:38 p.m.: Angel Velasquez of Modesto (126) and Anthony Hernandez of Vacaville met in last week's D-1 AA final with Velasquez winning 5-0. Today's showdown was close. Velasquez lost 4-3 in 2 OT in a controversial finish. Late in 2nd OT, Velasquez was called for a clasped-hands violation. Combine that with an escape point and that decides the match. In regulation, the official OK'd and then took away a takedown that would have won it for Angel. Crowd boo'd loud at match's end. ....Josh Villaflor of Franklin of Elk Grove decisioned Deon Sookhoo of Enochs for 3rd place. Sookhoo beat him 16-10 in first round. Villaflor went unbeaten after that.

3:10 p.m.: Section Masters finishes big with simultaneous 1st, 3rd and 5th-place matches at Stockton Arena. ... Freshman Adam Velasquez of Modesto (106) takes 5th with 10-4 win over Jacob Seto of Elk Grove. On the next mat, Jordon Aquino of Vacaville won the 106 title. Velasquez lost to him in OT in semifinals this morning. ... Just learned that Israel Saavedra of Modesto (120) has won the title by injury default over senior Gionn Peralta of Vacaville. They met in D-1 AA final last week in a great match at Johansen won 2-1 by Israel. ... Nico Colunga of Oakdale (113) rallies from 2-0 down to beat Devan Turner of Dixon 3-2. Colunga literally was hanging onto to Turner's legs as time expired. ... Tyler Felix of Los Banos (113) settles for fourth after a loss to Landon McBride of Del Oro. Felix pinned McBride in quarterfinals on Friday night. ... Tanner Browning of Golden Valley (113) loses and takes 6th.

2:50 p.m.: 7th-place results: Logan Eaton of Oakdale (106) wins. ... Freshman Steven Abbate of Central Catholic (113) jumped up and down and pointed to the crowd after his win. ... Trevor Williams of Oakdale (120) wins by decision. ... Reese Chew of Kimball (138) wins by injury forfeit. ... Rafael Herrera of Turlock (126) goes to Bakersfield with a decision over Max Stevens of Oakdale ... Paul Fagbamila of Beyer (132) won by DQ after he was thrown onto his shoulder. 1:46 p.m.: We're completing the consolation semifinal round. All wrestlers here already are state-bound. The winner vies for third and the loser for fifth. McCoy Kent of Enochs (138) bounced back from his semifinal loss with a win by decision. Frankie Trent of Oakdale (170) is a winner in OT. ...The meet is slightly behind schedule. The 7th-place matches, where the winner goes to state and the loser goes home, was supposed to start at 1:45. That's not going to happen. The 170s and 182s are on the mat in the consolation semis.

1:19 p.m.: Pitman senior Logan Wolfley reaches Masters final with 7-4 win over Connor Watson of Folsom at 170. Great result for hard-working kid, who goes to State for the first time and now will vie for Masters title. ...Turlock's Albino Orozco (170) marches to finals with decision over T.J. Shamblin of Ponderosa. ...In consolation 195s, Jay Johnson of Buhach Colony goes to State with a win by pin. ...Antonio Melo of Hilmar (182) was beaten by Skyler Gonzalez of Rocklin in semifinals. Melo trailed in the match and eventually injury-defaulted. In consolation 170s, Frankie Trent of Oakdale earns a state berth with clutch 6-4 win in OT over Bobby Posadas of Grace Davis. Tough loss for Pasadas. He led 5-4 when the whistle blew with 5 seconds left, and Trent escaped as time expired to earn the OT.

11:13 a.m.: Angel Velasquez of Modesto and Devon Sookhoo of Enochs, who waged a close battle at Modesto Metro Conference Championships at 126 with Velasquez winning, met again here in semifinals. This time, Velasquez controlled and won 8-2. ... Nick Valdez of Pitman (132) fell by decision in semifinal to Alex Elko of Jesuit. ...I n consolation 145s, Josh Peterson of Beyer clinches a state berth and finish in top six with a win. ... Tough loss for Enochs junior McCoy Kent, 5-4 loss at 138s to Brandon Clairborne of Oak Ridge. Kent led for much of this match. ... Emilio Saavedra of Modesto (138) clapped his hands after beating Tyler Lawrence of Escalon 9-2. Two good wrestlers. Lawrence going to State for the thrid time. ... 10:25 a.m.: Notes from the semifinals: Adam Velasquez of Modesto (106) lost a 3-1 lead late in the third round and lost in overtime to Jordon Aquino of Vacaville 5-3. Tough loss. Lots of blood delays by Aquino, who was heavily bandaged by match's end. ... Nico Colunga of Oakdale (113) reaches finals with 13-3 win over Alex Olivera of Lincoln of Stockton. ... Tyler Felix of Los Banos (113) lost via pin to Devan Turner of Dixon. ... Israel Saavedra of Modesto (120) scored an impressive pin over Anthony Wesley Jesuit.

9:38 a.m. While consolation round continues at Section Masters Wrestling, a quick note on CIF Girls Championships in Visalia: Gurleen Chahal of Livingston (116), Jasmine Ivey of Lathrop (137) and Alyssa Cantu of Weston Ranch (189) all have reached the semifinals. Tough break for Chahal: Clearly the best wrestlers in that bracket are matched up in semifinals.

9:15 a.m. Under way in second day of Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling at Stockton Arena.

We begin with a win-it-to-stay-in-it consolation round. The winners here guarantee a finish in the top 8. Problem is, only the top seven will qualify for State. A win in this round means wrestlers must win one of their next two matches to advance.

The rest of the day accelerates with semifinals and another consolation round at 10:15, consolation semifinals at 12:15, the win-or-go-home seventh place matches at 1:45 and the title, 3rd place and 5th-place matches at 3.
