Livingston High senior Gurleen Chahal has accomplished everything in her impressive wrestling career – except a state title.

Chahal will take a 23-0 season record, along with the high expectations, into the fourth annual CIF Girls Championships today and Saturday at the Visalia Convention Center.

The Livingston star has medaled twice at State – a fifth in the 108-pound class in 2013 and a fourth at 103 in 2012. Her momentum this season is strong, however, with titles at the Napa Valley Classic – arguably the best girls barometer in Northern California each season – and in the 116s of the Sac-Joaquin Section Northern Championships earlier this month at McNair High.

Chahal leads 17 Stanislaus District wrestlers to State. All placed in the top five of their respective brackets at McNair, and two joined Chahal as champions – seniors Natalie Brown of Grace Davis and Alyssa Cantu of Weston Ranch.

Brown, who placed sixth at State last year, won the 106s at the regional. Cantu, the 189-pound champion, earned a sixth at State at 165 a year ago.

The state meet was moved to Visalia because the fast-growing sport outgrew its former home at Lemoore High. Visalia also will be the host in 2015.

Also Visalia-bound are Modesto sophomore Marianne Schauer (160) and Enochs freshman Micaela Kent (101). Schauer was fifth at State at 165 last year.

Here is a list of other district state qualifiers:

101: Gabriella Garcia, Golden Valley. 106: Mia Hill, Weston Ranch. 121: Lexy Cordova, Central Valley. 126: Taryn Mitchell, Pacheco; Victoria Burke, Sierra. 131: Miranda Lamela, Pacheco. 137: Jasmine Ivey, Lathrop (third at State at 146 last year). 150: Carla Diaz, Los Banos; Myranda Velasquez, Pacheco. 170: Isabela Padilla, Calveras. 189: Jenee Judd, Calaveras. 235: Wonderful Deconge, Weston Ranch.

Wrestler Of The Week – Escalon senior Tyler Lawrence (19-2) pinned all four opponents en route to the 138-pound title at the Section Division 4 Championships at Delhi. In fact, Lawrence has pinned all post-season foes going into the Masters today. An injury shortened his senior season but he’s saved his best form for the end.
