Man suffers major injuries after jumping in front of truck

February 26, 2014

— A man suffered major injuries after he apparently jumped in front of a truck on Stockton Road, authorities said.

According to the Sonora Police Department, emergency responders were called to Stockton Road near Mill Villa Road at 4:08 p.m. Tuesday for a report that a vehicle hit a pedestrian. When they arrived, they found the man over an embankment, where he had landed.

Witnesses told police that a 2006 Ford pickup was heading westbound on Stockton when the man, who was walking east along the north shoulder of the road, jumped in front of the truck. The pedestrian was three feet into the traffic lane when the truck hit him, police said.

The force of the impact sent the pedestrian over the embankment and down a small ravine.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was taken by helicopter to a Modesto hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police did not release the names of those involved in the incident. Authorities said the investigation is continuing.
