Modesto churches, farmers looking above for rain

local@modbee.comFebruary 24, 2014

— Farmers were at the forefront as hundreds of people gathered at a multicommunity, multidenominational pray-for-rain service Monday evening at The House Modesto (formerly Calvary Temple) on Coffee Road.

Among the participants were Gustine farmer Lauren Bettencourt and wife Connie, as well as the Johnson family from Escalon: dad Dan and sons Danny, 17, and Samuel, 14. Mike Reed of Turlock stood with fellow farmer Dwaine Heinrich of Modesto and his wife, Peggy. Heinrich is the man behind the “Pray for rain” signs that have popped up throughout the Modesto area.
