Wanda Faye Williams: Leave Wood Colony alone

February 23, 2014

I’ve been reading about what the city of Modesto wants to do with the Wood Colony area. Stop.

Where will the families who have difficulty feeding their families get help feeding them? I’ve been in Modesto 60 years. We always could drive to Wood Colony and farmers would sell fruits, nuts or veggies. When money was tight, and you had children crying for food, we all knew that at least we could keep our dignity and support our families with help from farmers in Wood Colony. We loved the fruit and vegetables we got. We were treated with respect from these farmers. And most important, we always asked permission!

Times have changed, but if you drive down one of the roads today someone will have a sign out offering a food product for sale. They have beautiful farmland. Please let them keep the farmland.
