Vigil set for Sonora slaying victim

February 20, 2014

A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. for Rick “Ricky” Roberts, who was found fatally shot in his Sonora garage this week. Roberts, 49, was a well-known demolition derby competitor and police volunteer and was active in his church, Christian Heights. The garage – where Roberts built demolition derby cars and where the vigil will be held – is at 280 Mono Way. Police ask those attending the vigil to carpool because parking is limited. They also will escort people who park on the other side of Mono Way to the vigil and are asking motorists to avoid that section of the road from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to limit traffic congestion.
