Traci L. Warwick-Johnson: Pit bulls can be loving dogs

February 20, 2014

I would just like to respond to “Don’t condemn an entire breed” (Letters, Feb. 11): I agree with the author of that letter wholeheartedly because I too have experienced many memorable moments with a very sweet, lovable pit bull (Red Dog) who thought he was a lap dog! He was rescued by my son after someone had tortured him by burning him with cigarettes and having him fight other dogs. He was fragile, skittish and scarred, but after time he became the most lovable pet you can imagine and would be so happy to see you and crawl onto your lap!

He was loved and he responded in a very nonviolent, nonaggressive way – licks to your face and lots of tail-wagging.

Red Dog has since died, but I would not think twice about having another pit bull in the family. They are as loving as your want to make them.
