Women engineers to hold conference at UC Merced

The Society of Women Engineers Club of UC Merced will have a conference Saturday for girls in grades six through 12.

Titled “Expanding Your Horizons,” the purpose of the event is to inspire girls and create an interest in entering the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, according to news release.

Participants will engage in 10 workshops where they will meet and interact with women working in science, technology, engineering and math, have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, meet other students and learn more about STEM.

“The club is extremely excited about hosting this event and looking forward to providing young women with an unforgettable, enriching, and motivating experience at this conference,” Kavita Kumar, lead organizer of the event, said in the release

The conference is from which will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at UC Merced. There is a $5 fee for registration, lunch and a T-shirt. Any girl who would like to attend the conference must register at www.expandingyour horizons.org/conferences/UCMerced/
