Lonestar

Country quartet Lonestar brings its more than 20 years of experience to the Gallo Center for the Arts. Since the band reunited with lead singer Richie McDonald, it has released “Life as We Know It” and lately has been touring nonstop. Lonestar has sold more than 10 million albums and racked up nine No. 1 country hits, including “Amazed,” “No News” and “Come Crying To Me.”

Modesto Symphony Orchestra

Celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with a romantic program from the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. Conductor and cellist David Lockington will join his wife, violinist Dylana Jenson, in a Brahms concerto. The program also will include works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Glinka. The Modesto Youth Symphony Orchestra will also perform and has its own spring concert at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Presidents’ Wine Weekend

Sip your way through the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance’s 18th annual Presidents’ Wine Weekend. The event features free, limited tasting menus at all 22 alliance wineries in Murphys and across the county Saturday and Sunday. Tastings are available with the purchase of a commemorative wine glass. Wine glass sales are cash only. No reservations are required.

State Theatre films

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Modesto’s State Theatre is courting movie lovers. The Belgian offering “The Broken Circle Breakdown,” an Oscar nominee, plays at 4 p.m. Friday, with additional screenings in the week ahead. All five Oscar-nominated live-action shorts will screen starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The 1954 classic “Sabrina” screens at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, “Pillow Talk” at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Turlock Concert Association

The Turlock Concert Association brings in the New York-based instrumental group the Borealis Wind Quintet as part of the nonprofit’s 2013-14 concert season. The quintet plays a mix of classical, modern and opera music. The New York Times has said the group turns in “a polished, elegantly turned performance.”

‘The Freedom Riders’

The Sankofa Theatre Company brings back “The Freedom Riders” for an encore performance. The play about the civil rights movement sold out its performances when it debuted in November at the Gallo Center for the Arts, and returns in honor of Black History Month.
