CROWS LANDING — Stanislaus County sheriffs officials have arrested a suspect in connection with an alleged attack on woman in rural area just south of Crows Landing.
Jasmine Barriga, 21, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, criminal conspiracy and participating in a criminal street gang.
The victim told sheriffs officials she was in a vehicle with three males and Barriga, and they drove out to an area along Andersen Road, according to sheriffs Lt. Charles Grom.
There, the woman was pulled out of the vehicle and beaten. Grom said the victim told investigators that Barriga tried to take her purse but instead took her cellphone.
The suspects drove away, leaving the woman behind. Deputies investigated the reported robbery and later took Barriga into custody. There was no information to indicate whether other suspects had been identified and arrested.
Barriga was booked at the Stanislaus County Jail, where she was being held Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $100,000.
