William Minor: Recalling Carter’s visit in 1980

In reading the letter “Valley too conservative for Obama” (Feb. 7, Page A8), decrying the failure to land Air Force One in the Central Valley, I was reminded of the day in 1980 when my wife and I waved to the helicopter carrying President Carter from Castle AFB to a reception at the Damrell home in Modesto. Our waves were acknowledged by the helicopter slightly dipping.
