Dana Spicer: Who will staff the new jail?

February 11, 2014

I think I read this right. The Sheriff’s Department had to release people in custody (“County thins inmate ranks,” Feb. 7, Page A1) because there weren’t enough deputies to staff the jails and its prisoners. Then, in Monday’s paper (“Beds for jail are on agenda,” Page B1), they are going to build a 384-bed expansion of Stanislaus County jail. May I ask who will staff this jail? Is there something wrong here? People wake up, just like the Highway 99 repairs that did not include the overpasses!
