Richard Weiglein: Does new jail include new deputies?

February 11, 2014

I read the article “Beds for jail are on agenda” (Feb. 10, Page B1) stating that the county is going to build a new wing at the Hackett Road jail with 180-plus beds. Last week I read that the sheriff let a bunch of low-level prisoners out and has 60 empty beds because their are no deputies to watch them. Am I missing something, or do these new beds come with new deputies to watch them?

Sounds like the same old thing, the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

It just seems funny that we have money for everything except the police and sheriff departments to hire more desperately needed officers.
