Maria Buser: Other breeds also attack

February 11, 2014

Regarding “Pass laws to curb pit bulls” (Letters, Feb. 10.): We own two pit bulls, a male and a female. We also send prayers out to the victims of dog attacks, as it is a horrible experience. We agree with the majority of what the writer says about responsible ownership of dogs, even to make the owner responsible for injury or death to a victim. Absolutely!

But two things I disagree with: I will not muzzle my dogs, as it renders us both defenseless against a loose dog or bad human. Second, if the laws to force kenneling and sterilization, etc., are invoked it should be for all dogs. Pit bulls are the most publicized dog attacks, but it’s a fact that other breeds have attacked, causing harm and even death as well. This is not meant to be a scare tactic by an advocate, but the opinion of a pit bull owner.
